Friday, October 30th, 2009

The learning management system is evolving into a significant resource. With the tumultuous economy, and the rapidly spreading H1N1 virus, stability of the education system has become an issue among students of all ages. New Standardize reports results state that the aptitude in mathematics within our schools are at a record low, and has California concerned.

Due numerous cuts with in the schools, such as; an increase in termination of teaching jobs as well as a cut in programs from the curriculum, to ease budget issues, our student’s education is suffering. The No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB) Act of 2001, assesses whether or not our public school systems are providing students with appropriate means of progression in their education that will enable them to achieve higher education. If standards are not met this could potentially mean disaster for California’s school system.

A solution is being sought after as to how we can create an alternative in the education system to resolve the budget crisis in California, and uphold the quality of content or standard of teaching. Learning management system (LMS) provides a solution to this problem by providing students with inexpensive software that provides content to the students and enables a way to track their learning and their progress within each course. Exposure to the web and technological advances could potentially stimulate a students’ learning and increase their comprehension in many different areas subject matters.

Not only does a learning management system provide resolution to the budget issues and learning content but creates an innovative way to keep students safe from the H1N1 virus. Schools no longer need to worry about their students falling behind in their education or exceeding government regulated free days due to the precautions taken to end the spread of this epidemic. Distant learning provides an alternative to continue class in the safety of their own home.

Resources such as online training can potentially increase the effectiveness in how they learn as it complies to visual, auditory, and kinetic learners. Various Specialty Colleges and Universities have already established distant learning programs that provide their students with a way to receive their degree and pursue a higher education from their home. Such programs can successfully be implemented into our schools.

California has partnered with various organizations who have granted the state millions of dollars towards school funding, and so the questions remains, how can we best utilize those funds to ensure that our students receive the best education that will provide the opportunity to further their learning and create an avenue to their careers? The Government is turning to the learning management system by gifting various organizations with grants to implement distant learning into some of our schools. Hope in higher education to advance students and create an opportunity for a greater future is a goal worth striving for.
